26 March 2021 – A total of 39 youth took part in a 4-day 3-night camp organised by Green Brunei, which concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony last Friday in Dewan Riadah, Pusat Belia. The 8th Green Leaders Camp this year focused on climate change with the theme, “Go Green or Go Home.” The participants were aged between 14 to 22 years old.

Present at the ceremony was Legislative Council Member Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash’ari, the Co-founder and Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei, as well as representatives of the event partners, Brunei Shell Petroleum and Progresif Sdn. Bhd.

Throughout the camp, the participants were involved in a series of talks and field trips, where they were able to gain a better understanding of climate change issues and learn ways to tackle them. Amongst the talks include a session from the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, Brunei Shell Petroleum as well as from YSEALI alumni. A beach cleanup was also conducted, where the participants were able to collect 30 trash bags within 30 minutes.

Various field trips were conducted during the camp. The participants visited Tasbee Meliponiculture Farm to learn about stingless bees. They also visited Ecoponies Garden where the participants took part doing landscaping, cooking, cleaning, and planted 20 trees. The participants spent their night at Tasek Merimbun where they also learned to prepare their own meals. The following day, the participants went to Labi Coffee Farm where they were given a live demonstration and free trial of coffee-making, as well as planted 120 coffee trees. The participants also had an exclusive tour of Seria Energy Lab before returning to Pusat Belia.

As part of the camp outcome, five project ideas were pitched by the participants on the final day, where they were encouraged to execute them, with the support from Green Brunei.
