ISB BGIC Opening Ceremony 2020

Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman launched the 16th International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues
Conference (ISB BGIC) at the International Convention Centre (ICC).

The event began with a welcoming address by Laura Thomas, Executive Principal of ISB.The keynote address of the conference’s theme, ‘Youths Call for More Sustainable Cities and Communities’, was delivered by guest speakers Darren Tan who leads the Education and Community Outreach efforts at ComCrop Singapore, and Chloe King, a 2019 Fullbright U.S. Scholar conducting research in sustainable tourism in Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Following the speakers, Her Royal Highness delivered a sabda before officially opening the conference.

Also in attendance, the minister of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin. The ministry will be ISB’s Conference Partner to promote youth leadership and community links towards achieving Wawasan Brunei 2035.

Her Royal Highness was also presented with a memento by to show ISB’s deep gratitude for consenting to grace the Opening Ceremony.

During the event Her Royal Highness also presented certificates of participation to representatives from 25 schools attending the conference and certificates of appreciation to the sponsors of the event before
posing for a group photo with the certificate recipients.

ISB BGIC is an annual student-led model United Nations conference where participants represent various countries, sharing their views on current and real-world issues. The four-day conference is an initiative aimed at expanding students understanding of global citizenship and improving their public speaking and
negotiation skills.
