How did you find your passion?

Actually I got my first guitar when I was about 8 or 9 years old – I wasn’t really good at it…I was in the UK then and there were school plays and everything. That’s when I started to do my first ever performance by acting in my school play. Basically I first performed with my guitar on stage at my 6th form center in PTE Meragang and then I brought that over to Brunei. That’s when I had the chance to act for a couple of RTB productions like for Hari Raya as the talent. That sort of sparked my interest in acting further. From there, that piqued my interest in the performing arts and led to my obsession with Hollywood. From then on, I started to rigorously watch movies of various genres and was intrigued with the filmmaking process.

What if you didn’t get that guitar at 8? What do you think would’ve happened?

I’d probably be more academic-centric, because my other passion is actually in the sciences. So I had dreams of becoming a pilot, scientist, biologist, medic and all that. From form 4 to 6, I was actually in the science stream so that’s the direction I would’ve probably gone to if my interest in film and performing arts wasn’t as big as this. Either way I would’ve been happy with my life.

To me progressive – is changing with time – like a stream – constantly changing…upgrading yourself and improving. So in a sense – improvement.

That’s an awesome story. So who did you say gave you your first guitar?

I don’t know the actual story, but apparently when I was young I saw this kids-size guitar and according to my parents I was begging for it – I don’t know how I was begging for it but I just kept on passing it over and over again. So I guess because of that, my parents actually bought the guitar for me, so I credit them for launching my passion.
