hosted a panel discussion yesterday with the theme “Women on the Forefront of Progress”. Event was held at the RUANG Yayasan Complex, Banquet Hall.

The honouree at this special event was Puan Hajah Nurul Haniah Binti Haji Jaafar, the CEO of Progresif, along with five other distinguished guests who were specially invited to serve as panellists.

The distinguished guests include Her Excellency Ambra Dickie – High Commissioner of Canada in Brunei Darussalam, Puan Hajah Farida Dato Talib – CEO & Managing Director of BLNG, Dr Kathrina Mohd Daud – UBD Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; UBD Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and Literature; author of The Fisherman King and The Witch Doctor’s Daughter, Puan Natasha Halim – Counsel and Prosecuting Officer at AGC, Executive Committee Member at MKM and Mentor at Girls4Girls Brunei and Tuan Mohammad Syafiq Abu Bakar – Lead Trainer and Training Coordinator at Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA).

In line with the pillars of Progresif’s Corporate Social Responsibility, an advocate of the Brunei community and social investment, Progresif aims to draw attention to the achievements of women and to foster conversation on the different issues that women face today as well as solutions for addressing them.

Last year, Progresif took part in the annual Social Kitchen Community initiatives where the goal of this effort was to assist low-income families, particularly single mothers, in packing and selling their home-cooked meals at events or as donations across Brunei. Another project which Progresif undertook was the Breast Cancer Awareness month where they organised a brisk walk activity and hosted an internal giveaway of a breast screening package for their employees.

The International Women’s Day event served to not only celebrate women’s achievements but also to ultimately discuss elevating women in the workplace and the success of female leaders, while also recognising where gender gaps in the workplace exist and where women stand on the path to progress.

The International Women’s Day seeks to raise awareness of women’s rights, recognise the challenges that women face around the world, and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women worldwide. On this day, celebrations, events, and activities are held all around the world for women to come together, network with other women in different professions, and attend talks geared at empowering women in a variety of areas—such as entrepreneurship, leadership, and even mental health.

“We have a growing number of women leaders in Brunei, across leadership roles in the government and private sectors as well as entrepreneurs in the MSMEs and SMEs space. I hope that with platform as such, where we can collaborate and communicate, innovate, and share ideas, together we can empower and be empowered to realise our full potential and contribute to the economic growth” said Puan Hjh Nurul, CEO of Progresif. The event was supported by Pandora Brunei, Kain Kitani, Café Hoppers, Utara Coast, Dodotreats and Zainab’s Family Anyaman Bag
