Progresif today announced local media startup Scoop Media as the second startup to join the Progresif Startup Lab, in line with its commitment to support the growth of local innovation and entrepreneurship.
Six months ago, the startup launched an online news and culture website called “The Scoop” (https://thescoop.co/) which has become Brunei’s fastest growing digital news platform.
Devin Edwards, Chief Marketing Officer at Progresif, said that the presence of Scoop Media at the Startup Lab is part of an elaborate strategy to expand the scope of local content distributed on Progresif’s media channels.
“The collaboration with Scoop Media is a natural next step for us. We’ve already been active in producing original content and collaborating with other local content creators to produce engaging material for our channels of Progresif Radio, magazine and our blog website.
“By doing so, we’re also promoting and acknowledging the talent, effort and creativity that Bruneians are capable of. The team at Scoop Media have shown the drive to get the best and most relevant stories out to the public. We’re proud to be able to support their efforts through the Progresif Startup Lab which will give them backing in terms of operations and business mentorship,” he said.
The team behind The Scoop said their mission is to shine a light on stories that are underrepresented in mainstream media while pushing content to their website and social media channels for a generation of readers that are savvy smartphone users.
“Coming from a newspaper background, we found the approach to news reporting quite top-down. So, with The Scoop, we wanted to create something vastly different — something fresher, more grassroots and a reflection of the kind of stories our millennial audience wants to see.”
The startup was founded in September 2017 by former newspaper journalists Rachel Thien, Hadthiah Hazair, Rasidah Hj Abu Bakar and Ain Bandial.
“We’re excited to partner with Progresif and we see many possibilities for synergy between our two companies, especially in terms of expanding our content creation across different mediums and deploying technology to reach a larger audience,” they said.
Scoop Media will also be launching a weekly news segment on Progresif Radio starting March 12, which will be broadcast live every Monday at 8 am and will also be available on demand through the Progresif Radio app.
